Practising self-care and looking after your mental health🌈

The way you talk to yourself really matters. It shapes how you feel about who you are, your confidence, and how you act around others.

Everyone has an inner voice. Sometimes it can be supportive and encouraging, but other times it can be quite critical. If your inner voice feels harsh, try to pause and take a step back.

Ask yourself: “What would I say to a friend if they were thinking this about themselves?”

If you find yourself stuck arguing with your thoughts, simply notice it:

“I’m getting caught up in my thoughts right now.” Try to shift your focus to something around you, or take a few slow breaths.

Always remember that you deserve the same kindness, understanding, and respect that you give to others.

Tips on Being Your Own Cheerleader 💖

Celebrate who you are 🎉

There may be times when you feel different, left out, or unsure of where you belong. Taking a moment to focus on who you are (this can be your interests, identity, and personality), can help you feel more confident and connected.

Try exploring things that inspire you, like music, films, or people you admire. You might also get involved in activities or communities where you feel accepted and supported.

Set boundaries ⛔

Setting boundaries means protecting your time, energy, and wellbeing. This could mean saying no to plans when you’re tired, or spending less time with people who don’t make you feel good.

If someone makes you feel uncomfortable or disrespected, it’s okay to step away. It might feel difficult, but putting your mental health first is important.

Do something you enjoy 🎧

When things feel stressful, doing something you enjoy can help you switch off and reset.

This might be hanging out with friends, watching a film, getting creative, playing games, or just relaxing. The key is choosing something that makes you feel good and gives your mind a break.

Write down your thoughts 🖊️

Journaling your thoughts and feelings can help you make sense of what’s going on in your head. It also gives you a safe space to express yourself, reflect, and figure out what you might need next. Instead of bottling things up, you’re giving yourself a way to process them.

Find support 🫶

If you’re going through a tough time, it helps to talk to someone who understands. This could be a trusted friend, family member, teacher, or a support group.

But most important of all is to remember that you’re not alone, even if it feels like it. Reaching out can make things feel a little lighter, and you can do it at your own pace, when you feel ready.

Now it's time to doodle your thoughts and feelings!
